LAS Conference on ILS

Wah ... ages since I blog.

Btw, just in case anyone happen to follow my blog, I have moved on from SMU Li Ka Shing Library to Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Hopefully doing a new Digital Library there :)

Well, life have been busy but satisfying as I am learning lots of new stuff there.

Sort of neglected this blog since I moved to NP, but felt the urge to blog because I attended an excellent conference organised by the good people from TP library and Library Association of Singapore (LAS).

Key take aways:
1. ALEPH Inventory module => got to test out how to check against Call Number range to identify that books are shelved in order.
2. Loading of MARC records (eg. IT eBooks) in ALEPH => got to see how best to handle deletion.
3. Singapore Poly presented SMS service where they developed a standalone program without using III API. Found out from Rafi that they export overdue items and borrower's handphone using Create Lists and then uses the program to query this list. This is because they are not using Oracle, hence no access to query database directly.
4. Also learnt from Rafi various ways they integrate with Campus using SSO, etc.
5. Wai Ying/NYP shared about other useful feature in Spydus - Rating, Review, etc. Maybe its not a bad feature after all ...

Haha .. its really interesting. Also happen to meet some ex-colleagues in CIS - they asked if I am there for interview ????

Ok, time to get back to work. still got to do my MBA assignment .. zzzzzz
